WINGS AND WHEELS to be held on March 8th at SPRUCE CREEK
SPRUCE CREEK - The annual Spruce Creek Fly-in Air Festival "Wings and Wheels" will be held on Saturday March 8th, 2008 from 10:00 am to 2:00pm.
The popular Fly-in's festival has grown over the years to a magnificent event attended by over 3,000 residents and guests. For this year, Wings and Wheels will include a special "Missing Man" formation performed by the Gaggle Formation Flying Group in honor of our fallen heroes. The “Spot Landing Contest” is a time honored tradition where the local residents compare their skills to land their planes with accuracy and grace.
On the ground, participants will be treated to a diverse display of aircraft, vehicles and motorcycles. Aircraft present will include everything from World War II fighters such as P-51 Mustangs and Hellcats to Boeing Stearman military biplane trainers and Piper Cubs. Other precious antiques scheduled are the Sopwith Camel, a Fokker triplane (Same as the Red Baron’s airplane from WWI) and many contemporary production aircraft. Vehicles shown range from Rolls Royces to Cadillacs and Model T’s while Harleys, custom and antique motorcycles complement the static displays.
Many of the local businesses also appear at the event displaying their products and services in decorated booths. Food and drinks are available throughout the grounds and at the Downwind and Prop and Fore Restaurants. Several activities are planned for the rest of the kids (those under 18...)
